Blue Pitbulls: Breeding and Purchasing

What is the first thing that comes to mind when the word pitbull is mentioned? That right there is the kind of thing that sabotages the lovable things about them. Alright maybe you didn't think 'evil' or 'my demise' but the first thing that comes to my mind is that crazy neighbor guy who's house you are afraid to walk in front of for fear of one of his pitbulls busting through the glass and biting your face right off. Nothing you could do with that.

That probably has nothing to do with blue pitbulls them selves but the generalization is there, and there is nothing we can do about it. That, however, doesn't make them anymore rare, and that there are a lot of people trying to get their hands on one of these, I mean, I don't blame them, just take a look at this good looking fella.

Breeding Blue Pitbulls

Blue pitbulls first came from Ireland where pride and secretive inbreeding was done. Breeders in Ireland did not approve of inbreeding blue pitbulls. Simply because there can be a lot of complications to the process. If a blue pitbull is bred too many times through the same bloodline there can be health problems. They can range from diseases, heart problems, viral, and even over excessive aggression.

The blue pitbulls are not actually blue, rather just delusions of black that appear blue to the human eye. This is because of a skin problem they carry through inbreeding. This causes increased chances of viruses and diseases. So keeping a health blue pitbull would take a lot of care.

If you are planning on breeding these dogs yourself I would not suggest doing so around children. Since you have to breed these dogs several times to get the proper gene combination, you are gambling a dog that isn't right in the head. You may get lucky and get a dog that is close to an actual pitbull.

Buying Blue Pitbulls

Coming across a blue pitbull is very rare, which makes them very hard to get a hold of. since you have to breed the dog so many times and prey for the recessive gene to dominate, there is something that you are going to want to look for.

  • Make sure your breeder is reputable. You want to make sure that you are getting a quality blue pitbull and not one that is crazy or deathly ill. You want to make sure that the pedigree is available from at least 5 generations. The last thing you want is a dog that was breed one too many times.

You cannot get blue pitbulls in the market. Since these are so hard to come across they are currently not ready for the market, and you probably won't come across one in your local pet barn. This again is due to the "randomness" of getting one of these and that every inbreed dog is a gamble. There isn't a certain 100% way out there to get a blue pitbull. It is all random and they are hard to come across.

If you are look for a price they usually go for around $2000+ dollars. This seems a little costly, but if you are going to have any chance of getting on of these you are going to have to have money to get your foot in the door. A lot of the times they are help on reserve or a waiting list to get one of these from a certain breeder. So your best bet is to put yourself in the reserves and you will have your pick when the next one comes.

Reading this article saddens me, mainly because it seems as if no one knows what a REAL APBT is anymore.

With just a brief overlook of this article, I saw a lot of wrong information that the public needs to know the truth about.

First and foremost, the dog pictured in this article is NOT a pitbull, rather it is a breed created by Dave Wilson, founder of Razors Edge, the American Bully. This breed was created by taking American Staffordshire Terriers and American Pitbulls; Wilson wanted to created a larger, and all around more massive type of pitbull, but he wanted it to have a better disposition, and be more calm than the actual gamebred pitbulls. After time, Wilson came to stop calling his dogs pitbulls, as he knew they were entirely different from the actual breed, and began to call them as they're known today - American Bullies. With time, many backyard breeders threw in Mastiffs, Bulldogs, Cane Corsos, and many other large breeds to create this large, over sized, useless "blue pitbull," as people call them, but are actually American Bullies. Razors Edge, Gotti Line, and Grey Line are all good examples of a Ambully.

Secondly, blue "pitbulls" are NOT from Ireland this is a breed that is fairly new, having just been recognized into registries 10-15 years ago. Old Family RedNose, a very prominent game bloodline are dogs that were brought in from Ireland, and actually most of the APBT's ancestors are dogs from the British Isle, Britain, and Ireland.

Third, blue "pitbulls" are NOT rare in the slightest bit. There is no such thing as a rare pitbull, and if there were the only rare one would be the real American Pitbull, since everyone it seems is breeding for these freakishly large Ambullies, and calling them pitbulls. If you look on Craigslist you're bound to find more than a couple ads posted for blue pitbulls.

As a matter of fact, one the most famous pitbull bloodlines is the Colby line. Colby's Pinscher is, in my eyes, what a pitbull should be. True to his breed, loyal to his family, but an amazing pit dog - 24xW.

Here is what Louis Colby has to say about the "blue" dogs, and I can't think of any better authority: "As a boy growing up, and listening to multiple conversations between my father and visitors such as Collagan, Heinzl Vose, Donovan, and other dogmen from all over the country..never did the word blue appear. There never was a blue Colby dog in my father's yard, nor mine.To my knowledge there was never a blue colored dog reported in any match or sporting event."

And for the record, American Bullies are very wonderful dogs to have, they have very good dispositions. I own two Bullies, and two APBTs, and both breeds are very loyal and people friendly.

This is really sad if people actually read this hub and believe its contents. This hub is absolutely garbage in the since that it's information about blue pitbulls is completely inaccurate.
